Streamer OBS Setup

How to put cohosts on screen and play viewer video superchats during your stream.

MLNF gives you two browser-source overlays that drop into OBS in under a minute each. You only need to set them up once per stream — the URLs are bound to the stream you're broadcasting, so they work automatically once you go live.

1. Cohost Panel

Lets your guest cohost appear on screen in your broadcast. Audience sees their face composited into your video feed.

From your live page

  1. Start your stream. The Streamer Controls panel appears on your live page.
  2. Click Bring on Cohost. A new tab opens with your cohost room.
  3. Click Copy Share Link in that new tab. Send that link to your guest. They click it, allow camera/mic, and they're on with you.
  4. Click Copy OBS Link in the same tab. This is the URL for OBS — view-only mode, no controls visible.

In OBS

  1. In your scene, click + under Sources → Browser.
  2. Name it MLNF Cohost, click OK.
  3. Paste the OBS link into the URL field.
  4. Set Width 1280, Height 720.
  5. Leave Refresh browser when scene becomes active unchecked (otherwise it reconnects every scene change).
  6. Check Shutdown source when not visible if you want it to disconnect when you switch scenes.
  7. Click OK. Resize/position the source in your scene.

When your guest joins via the share link, they show up automatically in this OBS source. Up to 7 cohosts at once.

Common pitfall: Don't paste the share link into OBS — that's the joinable version with controls. The OBS link ends in &view=true and shows only the video grid, no buttons.

2. Video Superchat Overlay

Viewers who tip 100+ Runeshards get to record a 30-second video clip that plays as a card on your broadcast — like a YouTube superchat but with their face.

From your live page

  1. Start your stream.
  2. In Streamer Controls, click Copy Superchat Overlay. Your clipboard now has the OBS URL for this stream.

In OBS

  1. Click + under Sources → Browser.
  2. Name it MLNF Superchat Overlay, click OK.
  3. Paste the URL into the URL field.
  4. Set Width 1280, Height 720.
  5. Leave Refresh browser when scene becomes active unchecked.
  6. Important: place this source above your main video feed in the source list — superchats need to render on top of your broadcast.
  7. Click OK. Position the overlay where you want clips to appear (bottom-left works well).

When a viewer submits a video superchat, the overlay fades in a card with the clip, plays it for ~30 seconds, then fades out. Multiple clips queue automatically.

Common pitfall: If the overlay shows a black background instead of being transparent, your Custom CSS field in OBS may have leftover styles. Leave the OBS Custom CSS field empty — the page is already transparent by design.

Tips & Troubleshooting

  • Refresh a stuck source: Right-click the browser source → Refresh. This reconnects without restarting OBS.
  • Camera permissions: If your cohost says they can't see themselves, they need to allow camera/mic on the cohost page.
  • Audio routing: The cohost page captures cohost audio — make sure your OBS browser source has audio enabled (Properties → Control audio via OBS) so your guests are heard on the broadcast.
  • End the cohost room when done: When you stop streaming, close the cohost tab. The room ends automatically and the OBS source goes blank.
  • One stream, one set of overlay URLs: Both URLs include your active stream ID. If you start a new stream tomorrow, copy fresh URLs — the old ones won't bind to the new stream.
